The Federal Ministry of Labour, Family and Youth was established on 29 January 2020. The legal foundation is the Amended Ministerial Law (in German: Bundesministeriengesetz-Novelle, BGBl. I Nr. 8/2020).
Prior to that, the Federal Chancellery was responsible for family and youth issues, whereas the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Protection (now: Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection) was responsible for labour issues.
